GT Vendée: a partnership to install the national alert signal in Vendée

Jul 6, 2020 | Case studies

Garczynski Traploir Vendée (GT Vendée) is a Vinci Energies company specializing in electrical distribution network infrastructure.

The company contributes to thedevelopment of the Vendée region by designing electricity, gas and telecommunications network infrastructures for public and private players.

As a major player for local authorities, GT Vendée installs and maintains public lighting and gas distribution networks in partnership with SyDEV, the Vendée energy association.

Faced with new public policies on sustainable development and green energies, GT Vendée is innovating and campaigning for intelligent territories with the creation of SMART Grids. Connected grids that produce cleaner energy and manage the balance between production and consumption. The installation of charging terminals for electric vehicles is also a major challenge for the coming years.

From energy to safety

For several years now, GT Vendée has been developing a range of services dedicated to video protection networks. As a specialist in network engineering, there’s only one step between street lighting and video surveillance. This is also the case when it comes to warning sirens.

Collaborate on the installation of public warning sirens

Faced with major risks, whether natural, industrial or even military, since 1948 France has had a National Warning System (Réseau National d’Alerte – RNA) dedicated to protecting the population.

Initially designed to protect against airborne threats, the RNA is now part of the Information and Warning System for the Population, which aims to respond to a wide range of risks. The national alert signal is the sound signature recognized by the population.

For several years now, the Prefectures and local authorities have been modernizing their equipment to ensure optimum protection of the territory. Through the national alert signal, they ensure that the entire population recognizes the alert and follows the instructions inherent to their commune. The national alert signal is clearly defined and recognizable by all. It consists of a sound modulated in three rising and falling sequences, each lasting one minute and forty-one seconds. The sequences are separated by a five-second pause. The alert endswith a continuous signal lasting 30 seconds.

In 2019, Salomé Phlipart, GT Vendée project manager and Smart Grid engineer, is working with ADF Systemes to install a population alert system in the commune of La Châtaigneraie.

“We are vehicles for communication with local elected representatives. We’d like to see more projects based on population alert systems in our communities, even if it’s a substantial investment. “

Thanks to this collaboration, ADF Systèmes is able to broaden its scope of action across the country with a trusted partner. Also present in Brittany and Normandy, Garczynski Traploir brings real expertise in site preparation and the installation of warning systems.

For the commune of La Châtaigneraie, GT-Vendée teams were able to liaise on the ground with the town’s services to install the new population alert system.

After 3 days of preparation and installation of the sirens, the town was equipped witha robust and effective system.

For Salomé Phlipart, these audible and industrial alarms can sometimes represent large budgets for local authorities, but these investments are necessary.

As with the new LED street lighting systems, amortization is a medium- to long-term process.

“Ensuring public safety is priceless.

It’s a long-term investment.”
